Peter Riley's Fundraising Challenge
Story
A professional role model of mine has benefited from 2 heart transplants and is alive and thriving almost 30 years later.
1,100 Victorians have received heart and lungs since transplants began at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne
Heart and Lung Transplant Trust (Victoria) Inc. ("HLTTV") is organizing the Tour de Transplant, a 9 day cycling challenge from 22nd to 30th March 2014. Symbolically the route covers 1,100km around Victoria.
Pre existing commitments precluded me from undertaking the entire ride, but I will be doing the last 5 days, including days involving climbing Tawonga Gap and Falls Creek following up with days of 150k and 142k.
Each participant is raising money for HLTTV's Second Chance Accommodation Program. The program provides a home away from home, post operation, for interstate and regional patients throughout their recovery and rehabilitation period. $2,400 will help one family with accommodation for 3 months, being their required period of need post transplant. Currently funding is only able to provide less than half of transplant families with accommodation. The need is both immediate and ongoing.
If your donation is from a Private Ancillary Fund the easiest approach is to draw a cheque payable to Heart and Lung Transplant Trust (Vic) Incorporated. If you could send the cheque to Annette she can ensure that it is properly receipted and acknowledged.
Activity
Heart and Lung Transplant Trust (Victoria) Inc.
The Heart and Lung Transplant Trust (Victoria) Inc. is a not-for-profit association whose membership consists of heart and lung transplant patients, recipients, their carers and families.
Our vision is for a bright and active future for all those involved with or in need of a heart or lung transplant. We actively encourage organ donation and support The Alfred Hospital Melbourne, the transplant team, patients, recipients, their families and carers throughout the journey.
Formed in 1994, five years after The Alfred Hospital performed its first pioneering heart transplant, HLTTV is managed by a committee of dedicated volunteers who have each experienced the heart or lung transplant journey. We are a partner of DonateLife and are a Deductible Gift Recipient, so donations of $2 and over are tax-deductible.
